Margaret Simpson, also known as the Cedar Medicine Woman, is deeply passionate about helping people meet their health and wellness needs. She has extensively researched various forms of complementary and alternative medicine, from aromatherapy to reflexology, and is a firm believer in the healing powers of naturopathy.
Simpson is the proud founder and owner of White Cedar Remedies, offering all-natural, handcrafted body care products for pain relief and skin care.
The first product Simpson created was a topical pain reliever that has been successfully marketed in many stores for 12 years.
Now, after the success of the topical pain reliever, Simpson decided to create another product for skin care. She named it Wha-Bonga-La, a word Simpson coined that means awesome skin care.
Simpson is the founder of White Cedar Remedies and runs the Cedar Medicine Woman Wellness Studio from her home in Thunder Bay’s east end. The studio offers a variety of wellness services including reflexology, cupping therapy, ionic foot bath detox sessions and more.
Simpson was born and raised in Toronto. He moved to Thunder Bay in 2006 and attended Confederation College where he studied Aboriginal Law and Advocacy. He immersed himself in Aboriginal culture and lifestyle in his spare time. After graduation, Simpson continued to research traditional remedies.
The origins of White Cedar Remedies began when Simpson visited a treatment center in Pic River Heron Bay in the mid-2000s. There, a charming local elder gave her the spirit name “Cedar Medicine Woman.”
After going to several sweat lodges, a medicine man led him to work with cedar trees to create something that could help people in pain.
“Cedar is known as the tree of life,” Simpson said. “It offers so many health benefits.”
Shortly after Simpson began working with cedar trees, he developed the White Cedar Remedy, which has become very successful today.
In the beginning, Simpson’s primary goal was to help people experiencing pain during substance abuse rehab. The positive feedback he received led to its widespread adoption.
His family and friends began using the cream for various painful conditions and found it helped relieve their pain, so he continued to refine the formula.
During the development of medicines made from white cedar, he lived in Cobourg, where he cared for his aging parents. Both of his parents experienced positive results with the white cedar remedy. His father had post-polio syndrome, while his mother had full-body seizures due to Alzheimer’s disease.
The White Cedar Remedies business began in 2012 when Simpson attended a business start-up course through the Northumberland Community Futures Development Corporation.
After completing the course, the White Cedar Remedies business plan was successfully implemented and has been thriving ever since.
Simpson has always wanted to help people who are looking for natural healing. He is happy to know that his products have helped people live healthier lives with less pain.
She likes to host pop-ups at stores that sell her products because it allows her to interact with the community and meet different people.
“We live in a fast-paced society,” Simpson said. “It’s time to slow down and enjoy what Mother Earth has to offer us. Peace and tranquility.”
It gives her great pleasure to hear positive feedback from people from all walks of life who benefit from the amazing products she worked so hard to create.
The overall response has been overwhelmingly positive, although there was initial skepticism. After people started using the product, their views changed. Customers report that the products are effective in relieving and managing pain.
A new skin care cream is creating a sensation in the market and sales are skyrocketing.
As White Cedar Remedies continues to succeed, Simpson hopes people will recognize the product as 100% natural, proudly handcrafted in Canada, and affordable, with life-enriching health benefits.
“I want to thank all of my customers for their support and positive feedback,” said Simpson. “Many thanks to all the local businesses involved with White Cedar Remedies.”
White Cedar Remedies plans to expand nationally, selling its products across Canada. In addition, the company hosts pop-up demos and markets throughout the Thunder Bay area.
As White Cedar Remedies expands, Simpson is excited about the future and what it holds in the years ahead.
“Live each day to the fullest,” Simpson said.
